The 4 Best Off-Road Routes Around The Globe

5 Sydney Travel Tips for Affordable Luxury Travelers | Style & Life by Susana

Taking a road trip is one of the best ways to experience a new country. You can get up close and personal and discover hidden gems along the way, so you get a sense of the true culture of the place.

If you want to experience the best natural features that a country has to offer, you need to get off the main roads and head out into the wild.

Off-road trips are a much different experience from a traditional road trip, and many people find them more rewarding because you can get in touch with nature and have a real adventure.

There are amazing off-road destinations all around the world, but these are some of the best. Let’s check them out now!

Australia

The Australian outback is one of the wildest places on Earth, with some incredible natural beauty spots and lots of great secluded towns to visit along the way.

If it’s a true adventure you’re after, Australia is the place to go. You can try camping in Australia or if you don’t fancy that, plan routes that take you through a number of different towns along the way. Just be aware that driving in the outback can be incredibly dangerous, so you need to prepare yourself properly.

If you don’t own one already, it’s best to hire a 4wd vehicle for the trip. There are a lot of difficult roads out there and it’s unlikely that your car will make it through unscathed. Make sure that you have good quality 4wd wheels that are capable of standing up to the tough roads.

Get your vehicle serviced properly too, and bring plenty of spare parts and equipment to fix it in case you break down. You don’t want to get stranded in the middle of the outback.

Namibia

If you want incredible wildlife, Namibia is one of the best spots for off-roading. It’s a very sparsely populated country, which means plenty of wide open spaces where all of the majestic animals are able to roam free.

There is, however, a decent infrastructure in place for odd-road trips. There are all sorts of great routes around the country and you’ll find lots of camping spots along the way. The tracks are well looked after too, so even though you’re off-roading, it’s not as rough as places like the Australian outback.

The capital city of Windhoek is the best place to start. From there, you can journey through the dunes and through some of the surrounding small towns.

There are also some brilliant routes through the Etosha National Park. Whichever route you decide to take, you’ll meet lots of friendly locals along the way, sample some delicious food, and see some of the most breathtaking wildlife anywhere on the planet.

Italy

Most people don’t think of Italy as an off-roading destination. They picture beautiful cities, incredible fresh food and romance. But that’s only one side of this amazing country and there are some great off-roading spots too.

There is a beautiful route along the Amalfi coast which, although paved, is still quite rough. You’ll wind your way along the cliffs, looking straight out into the crystal blue waters.

The route takes you through three of Italy’s most picturesque towns; Amalfi, Ravelli and Positano. When you stop off in these places, you’ll see why they have been popular subjects for artists throughout history.

Between the towns, you’ll also find some amazing Roman ruins and old cathedrals. If you want a different Italian experience, this is the way to find it.

Canada

If it’s natural beauty that you are after, Canada has plenty to offer. The best off-roading spots have to be Banff and Jasper National Parks.

These two adjoining parks have some great pre-made off-road routes for you to drive. Although they have rules against deviating from the track, you’ll still get a great off-road experience and the sights that you see along the way are truly stunning.

The multiple routes available take you through gigantic ice fields and past huge waterfalls and picturesque alpine lakes.

You’ll probably feel the cold after a long drive through this snowy landscape, so why not warm yourself up in some of the hot springs? It’s a truly unique experience that is hard to replicate in any other country. If you’re feeling active, you can get involved in sports like snowboarding, skiing and kayaking all year round.

If you have a thirst for adventure and you are tired of city breaks, why not hit up one of these amazing off-road destinations instead?
