3 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Women & Drug Addiction

3 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Women & Drug Addiction | Style & Life by Susana

As a woman, you know that often the challenges you face in life are going to be a bit different for men in our society.

While we have many of the same responsibilities and occupations as men, probably for the first time ever in history, we are often not given the same level of support as our male counterparts.

If you or someone you love are in the throes of addiction, it’s time to seek a women’s treatment program to help you become clean and sober to resume your life before addiction.

That may be a time difficult to remember, but the more you focus on the therapies you are given at a womens rehab center, the more you’ll remember about life before drugs. There’s a five-star prescription drug addiction treatment in Thailand you should definitely give a try.

This is where therapy begins and why you need professional help to bring you through what is probably the most difficult period in your life to date.

? There Is a Definite Gender Difference in Relation to Addiction

Some studies say that addiction in women is climbing faster than it is in men. However, most studies agree with this one from Harvard Medical School that there are different triggers, and different underlying causation between the sexes.

It has only been within recent years that women have been involved in studies, so this is something which is just coming to light. Prior to the mid-1990s, most studies were conducted on men.

We now better understand the plight of women and the things which are likely to trigger addiction.

? Hormonal Imbalances Can Be a Trigger

One of the things which has been discovered is that hormonal imbalances, especially during pregnancy, can lead to drug use.

While expectant mothers know the dangers of drugs and/or alcohol during pregnancy, those imbalances can be so extreme as to overpower our need to protect that growing fetus. In terms of drug rehab for women, this is where programs vary from those tailored for men.

Hormonal imbalances are considered and these take a very specific type of focus for a recovering addict.

? A Direct Link Between Trauma, Domestic Violence and Addiction

Another major difference is the whole area of domestic violence and trauma. While men (and now women!) coming back from war zones are apt to suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, a known factor in addiction, PTSD can also result from domestic violence.

Women unwilling to talk to authorities about being abused are more likely to self-medicate. This is not to say that all women who have been abused are at risk to become addicts, but it is a trigger in a significant portion of the female population.

If you, or a loved one, are suffering from addiction, just know that help is out there. While any drug rehab program is better than none, it behooves you to seek a women’s drug rehab because your underlying causes may be specific to the female gender.

The bottom line is that you should seek treatment today to live a healthier and sober tomorrow. Get help before it’s too late.

Share the love please xoxo
